around Broadway

Broadway is the sort of village where you can leave the car for the day and still feel you've covered ground. The wide green High Street sets the pace, and within about two miles you'll find some 40 shopping places, 20 spots to eat and drink, 16 places to stay and 10 things to visit, along with a handful of services and somewhere to work off lunch. It's a browsing sort of town rather than a rushing one, with independent shops sitting alongside galleries and food producers, and open country rising behind it towards the escarpment. Come for an afternoon and you'll probably start planning a longer stay.

A good few hours might begin with coffee and something to take home from Broadway Deli, followed by a wander into Lyndsey Savery and La Bulle to see what the independents are stocking. The Broadway Museum and Art Gallery is worth an hour if the weather turns, and Collins Butchers is the place to call in if you've booked a cottage with a kitchen. Then drive or walk up to Broadway Tower Country Park for the views back across the Vale.
