Bishop's Cleeve is the kind of place that works well as a base rather than a day-trip tick list. It's a working village first and foremost, with a good spread of everyday places within about two miles: 22 spots to eat and drink, seven for shopping, six places to stay, five to visit and three activity venues. That mix means you'll find somewhere open when you want a coffee or a proper meal, a bed for the night if you're walking or cycling in the area, and enough variety that a second visit doesn't feel like a repeat of the first.

A few hours here might start with a browse in Cleeve Bookshop, which is the sort of shop where you go in for one thing and leave with three. From there it's easy to fill the morning with a look at Bishops Cleeve Methodist Church, then lunch or something sweet from Feathers n Flavours.
