Cleeve Hill sits at the highest point in the Cotswolds at 1,083 feet, so the views from up here are genuinely expansive on a clear day.
You're looking out over the Severn Valley and Vale of Evesham, which feels quite different from the valley settlements elsewhere in the region. The village itself is straightforward and working rather than anything designed for show. What really makes it special is the common land surrounding it. Cleeve Hill Common is essentially your back garden up here, with open grassland, walking paths, and a real sense of space that appeals to walkers and families who want to stretch out properly. There's also a golf course on the common if that's your thing.
The limestone plateau has been grazed for centuries, which is why the landscape looks the way it does today. The stone beneath your feet is the same golden Jurassic limestone that built the famous villages downslope toward Cheltenham, just a few miles away. If you're based in Cheltenham, Cleeve Hill makes an easy escape for fresh air and a change of perspective. The walks up here are genuinely rewarding without being strenuous, and the views justify the trip even on a grey day when you get brief gaps in the clouds. It's the kind of place locals come regularly rather than somewhere tourists pass through just once.
