Brockhampton

This small hamlet sits just east of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, within the parish of Sevenhampton.

You could easily drive through without noticing you're there, and that's rather the appeal if you want to step back from the better-known Cotswolds spots.

Brockhampton is genuinely rural, with properties scattered across the landscape rather than gathered into a village center. What makes it geographically interesting is that the River Coln rises nearby. The river eventually flows south to join the Thames, so you're essentially standing at the beginning of its journey. That appeals particularly to people interested in landscape and how the waterways shape the terrain.

Don't expect shops or visitor attractions within the hamlet itself—that's not what this place offers. Instead, it's ideal for exploring the quieter side of the Cotswolds on foot, following country lanes and walking routes that connect into the broader network of footpaths across the region. The surrounding countryside has everything you'd expect: rolling fields, dry stone walls, and patches of woodland.

For proper amenities and a wider range of things to do, Cheltenham is close enough for a short drive, with restaurants, shops, and cultural venues. Brockhampton works best as a base for walking rather than as a destination in its own right, though many visitors are drawn to it precisely because of that understated, unbusy character.
