Just outside Tewkesbury, Wingmoor Farm Meadow is a seven-hectare nature reserve managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
It's a straightforward place—no visitor centre or facilities, just open grassland that you can walk through freely. What makes it worth visiting is that it genuinely reflects how the Cotswolds landscape actually works, protecting the kind of habitat that keeps the region's wildlife going.
The meadow supports different wildflowers and birds depending on what time of year you arrive. Spring and early summer are particularly rewarding, when the grasses are flowering and you'll see butterflies, bees, and various bird species actively feeding and nesting. You might spend an hour or so quietly observing, sketching, or taking photographs—that kind of unhurried pace suits the place well.
Because the reserve is small and doesn't attract big crowds, you're likely to have the meadow mostly to yourself, which actually makes it feel genuinely peaceful rather than busy. It's the sort of location where you can simply stand still and notice what's around you without feeling rushed.
The meadow sits about fifteen minutes north of Gloucester by car or bus, making it easy to reach from the wider area. If you're already exploring Tewkesbury's medieval abbey or walking along the riverside, this works perfectly as a quieter counterpoint. Entry is free, and it offers something quite different from the more popular attractions you'll find elsewhere across the Cotswolds.
