Standlake is the kind of village you come to when you want a quieter corner of the Cotswolds fringe, where the pace is set by lanes, water meadows and the people who live here rather than by coach parties. It isn't a place of grand set pieces, and that's rather the point. Within about two miles you'll find four places to eat and drink, four places to visit, three places to stay, somewhere to shop and an activities operator, which is enough to fill a day without ever feeling you're queuing for it. It suits visitors who like a walk, a long lunch and a look at the water, and it works just as well as a base as it does as a stop.

A good few hours might start on the water with Maybush Moorings, then carry on to The Maybush for something to eat before the afternoon gets away from you. Linch Hill Vineyard is worth building the day around if you'd like to taste what's grown locally, and The Rose Revived makes a natural last stop. Staying over, you've Lincoln Farm Park and Newbridge Farm close by.
