Stanton Harcourt sits in Oxfordshire, a few miles southwest of Witney, and gives you a real sense of what Cotswolds village life actually looks like.

The village centers around its church and a scattering of stone cottages, but the main draw for many visitors is Stanton Harcourt Manor, a substantial medieval house that's been home to the same family for centuries. You can tour the grounds and see the old kitchen, which is housed in a separate building—a practical arrangement from when cooking happened away from the main living spaces. The manor's gardens are worth exploring too, and they often host events through the year.

The village itself is small and peaceful, making it ideal if you want to avoid the busier tourist spots while still getting that authentic Cotswolds atmosphere. It's close enough to Witney that you could combine a visit here with exploring that larger market town, or use it as a base for walking and cycling in the surrounding countryside. The landscape around here is open and rolling rather than dramatically hilly, which makes for pleasant, manageable walks whatever your fitness level. There's a pub in the village where you can grab a meal or a drink, and that's really the extent of facilities—which is exactly the point if you're after somewhere genuinely quiet.
