This small village sits alongside the River Windrush, one of the Cotswolds' most characterful waterways, making it an ideal spot if you want to experience the landscape without the crowds of bigger tourist destinations.

The river itself is the main draw here—it's shallow and gentle, perfect for a quiet walk along the banks or a paddle if you visit in summer. The village itself is modest, with traditional stone cottages and a real sense of rural peace, which appeals to people looking to escape rather than sightsee intensively.

Northmoor works best as part of a broader exploration of the Windrush valley. The river flows southeast from Gloucestershire down through Burford and Witney before eventually joining the Thames, so you could easily combine a visit with stops in those larger towns if you want more amenities or attractions. Burford, about twenty minutes' drive north, offers excellent shops and restaurants, while Witney to the south has more substantial facilities and its own interesting history in cloth manufacturing.

The area is wonderful for walking, whether you stick to the river path or venture into the surrounding countryside. Early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be particularly peaceful, and the light across the water is especially good for photography then.
