around Tubney

Tubney is a small place, more a scatter of houses and woodland along the road than a village with a centre, and that's rather the point. What you get here is the quieter edge of the Cotswolds' eastern reach, where the countryside is worked rather than staged, and where a short drive in any direction turns up rather more than the map suggests. Within a couple of miles you'll find eight places worth visiting, five activity spots, three shops, three places to eat and drink, and a handful of services — enough to fill a day without ever feeling that you're queueing for it.

A good few hours might begin at Millets Farm Centre, which is the practical hub of the area for food, produce and a sit-down, and works equally well as a first stop or a last one. From there, Phoebe Woods gives you somewhere to walk off lunch under the trees, and if you're the sort who plans a day around a round of golf, Frilford Heath Golf Course is close enough to build everything else around. Gardeners should allow time for Appleton Nursery or Webb's Garden Centre, both of which reward a slow browse.
