This nature reserve sits just outside Dry Sandford, a short drive from Oxford, and offers something quite different from the typical Cotswolds scenery.

Where much of the region features rolling hills, Parsonage Moor centres around wetland and damp grassland — habitats that attract wildlife specially adapted to wetter conditions. You'll find a good range of birds, insects, and plant species throughout the year, making it particularly rewarding if you're interested in seeing what lives here beyond the usual countryside sights.

The reserve works well for a leisurely walk at whatever pace suits you. The paths are well looked after and let you explore without disturbing the sensitive habitats, and there's plenty to notice as the vegetation changes through the seasons. This is one of those places where you can actually hear silence and take in nature without the buzz of busier attractions around you.

Because it's so close to Oxford, it makes an excellent half-day trip if you're based in the city, and you won't find yourself jostling with crowds. The market town of Abingdon-on-Thames is also very nearby, so you could easily pair your visit here with exploring the town or grabbing a meal. It manages to feel genuinely quiet and restorative without being isolated, which you don't come across often in this part of the world.
