This cycling area spreads across the eastern edge of the Cotswolds, centred on the small villages of Wootton, Fyfield, and Tubney.
What makes it special is the network of quiet country lanes that wind through gently rolling Oxfordshire countryside, linking open fields and ancient hedgerows in a way that rewards slow exploration on two wheels. You'll pedal past traditional stone villages, each with its own old church and houses that carry centuries of local history in their walls.
The real appeal here is simply being out in the landscape. Traffic is minimal—mostly tractors and the occasional dog walker—so there's a real sense of peace as you move through the lanes. It's the kind of place where stopping at a local pub along the way feels like a natural part of the day rather than a planned detour. There aren't major attractions to tick off, but that's rather the point. This is rural England in its most authentic form, where the countryside itself is the destination.
If you want to break up your cycling with something different, Abingdon-on-Thames is close by with its shops, cafes, and riverside paths. Oxford, with all its university buzz and urban energy, is also within easy reach if you fancy a contrast to these tranquil lanes. But for many visitors, the simple pleasure of cycling through unspoiled countryside is reason enough to spend a whole day here.
