Eynsham is the sort of place that rewards you for slowing down. It's a working village rather than a showpiece, and within about two miles you'll find a dozen places to eat and drink, three spots for activities, two for shopping, two worth visiting in their own right, and two places to stay if you'd rather not drive home afterwards. That mix makes it an easy base for a day in this corner of the Cotswolds, whether you're stopping en route to somewhere else or treating the village itself as the destination.

A good few hours might start with coffee and something warm at Cherry Tree Cafe, followed by a wander to see what's on the shelves at Jessie's Art Shed. If you're self-catering or heading off for a picnic, Golsby Butchers is the obvious stop for supplies. Come lunchtime or evening, you've got proper choice: the Jolly Sportsman for a pub meal, The Newlands Inn if you want to settle in for a while, or Bayleaf Restaurant when you fancy something with a bit more occasion about it. Leave time to simply walk the lanes between them.
