This small village sits along the River Evenlode in Oxfordshire, in the heart of the Cotswolds.

The river itself is the main draw here—a gentle waterway that winds through countryside and connects several settlements as it makes its way south-east toward the Thames, about forty-five miles downstream.

Walking along the river is really the best way to experience what the place is all about. The water meadows and tree-lined banks offer peaceful routes for strolling, and you'll spot wildlife if you're patient enough to watch. The village itself feels refreshingly low-key, with traditional stone buildings and a genuine sense of being away from the main tourist crowds. It's the sort of spot where you can sit by the water with a book and actually hear the birds properly.

The river has an interesting history—it was actually called the Blade until the late eighteen-nineties, which is why the nearby settlement of Bladon has that name. The Cotswold Line railway runs through the valley, so you might catch the distant sound of trains as a reminder of how transport and connection have shaped this landscape over time.

If you want to explore more widely, the river valley connects you to other villages worth visiting—Bledington, Shipton-under-Wychwood, and Charlbury are all within walking distance or a short drive. Oxford is about ten miles south-east if you'd like to mix a quieter village experience with some urban attractions. Moreton-in-Marsh, a proper market town, sits roughly fifteen miles north and works well as a base for the wider area.
