Lower Quinton sits on the quieter edge of the Cotswolds, where the hills give way to open farmland and the walking is gentle rather than strenuous. It's a small place, and that's rather the point: within about two miles you'll find ten places to visit, four spots to eat and drink, a single shop, one activity provider and three services, which is enough to fill a day without ever feeling hurried. Come here if you like your sightseeing unhurried, your paths quiet and your afternoons shaped by weather rather than opening times.

A good few hours might begin with the climb to Meon Hill Multivallate Hillfort, where the earthworks are still clear underfoot and the views stretch out across the surrounding countryside. From there, work your way through the gardens at a slow pace: the Apostles garden, the Tulip tree avenue and the Water garden each reward a proper look rather than a quick circuit, and the Courtyard makes a natural pause between them. Finish at The College Arms in the village, which is well placed for a late lunch or a drink before you head home.
