Trig point on Meon Hill Meon Hill is a prominent outlier from the Cotswold escarpment. View to the south-west from the trig point, left to right on the horizon is Dumbleton Hill, the largest Cotswold outlier, Bredon Hill and across the Severn Valley the Malvern Hills. When taking this picture I was under the impression the hill was open access, when actually it isn't.

High above the rolling landscape of the northern Cotswolds stands an Iron Age multivallate hillfort with impressive defensive earthworks that remain clearly visible today.

Walking around the site, you can trace the multiple rings of ramparts and gain a real sense of why people chose this location thousands of years ago. The strategic position isn't just historically significant – it also means the higher points offer sweeping views across the surrounding countryside that help you understand the scale and importance of the place.

The site makes for an invigorating walk, with well-defined paths leading around the extensive earthworks. There's something quite moving about standing on ground where daily life unfolded in the Iron Age, even if you're simply imagining what those routines might have looked like. While the main structures date to the Iron Age, the wider Meon Vale area has evidence of occupation stretching into the Roman period and beyond, suggesting continuous settlement over many centuries.

It's a peaceful spot now, ideal for fresh air and quiet reflection. The location works well as part of a broader exploration of the area – Stratford-upon-Avon, Chipping Campden, and Broadway are all within easy driving distance if you want to combine your visit with exploring some of the region's other attractions.
