Courtyard is a village garden in Ilmington, tucked into the North Cotswolds landscape.
This is a modest but thoughtfully laid-out space that shows you how gardening actually works in this region—plants are arranged to sit naturally within the village setting rather than imposed upon it. You won't find grand lawns or rare specimens here. Instead, it's a place where you can wander unhurriedly, observe how things are planted and positioned, and simply spend time quietly surrounded by greenery.
Ilmington itself rewards a proper visit. The village has genuine character, with traditional stone buildings and that slow-paced atmosphere that makes the Cotswolds feel genuinely different from the busier parts of the country. There's a local pub for a drink, and plenty of footpaths radiating out into the countryside if you want to take longer walks.
As a base, Ilmington puts you within easy reach of some better-known spots in the region. Stratford-upon-Avon, Broadway, and Chipping Campden are all short drives away, each with their own distinct appeal. That said, there's real value in staying in quieter villages like this one. You get a different perspective on the Cotswolds than the more visited towns tend to offer—something altogether less rushed and more connected to how people actually live here.
