This cycling route through the northern Cotswolds connects Stratford-upon-Avon with the villages further south, making for an excellent day out on two wheels.

8.6 km 32 min easy

Starting from Stratford, you'll head out on quiet country lanes towards Lower Quinton and Ilmington, passing through genuinely rural territory that still centres around farming and traditional village life. The riding itself is rewarding without being punishing—gently rolling hills interspersed with winding lanes that reveal wide open views across the Warwickshire countryside, punctuated by stone buildings and ancient churches. Lower Quinton serves as a natural pause point partway through, while Ilmington makes a good destination for a pub lunch and a proper look around. The village greens are peaceful spots to rest, and you'll find the overall atmosphere far removed from the bustle of Stratford itself, though you can always head back there for more extensive facilities and refreshments. From here, places like Chipping Campden and Broadway are within reasonable driving distance if you want to extend your trip. The route works equally well as a circular ride returning to Stratford or as a one-way journey if you're planning something longer. It's the kind of ride that reminds you why the Cotswolds appeal to people looking for accessible countryside cycling.
