in Lower Quinton

The Morning Room Garden in Ilmington opens its gates to visitors on selected dates through the National Garden Scheme, with proceeds supporting various charities.

It's genuinely rewarding to visit if you want to see what thoughtful design can achieve on a modest scale. The garden spans roughly an acre but manages to feel like several distinct spaces flowing into one another. You'll find herbaceous borders packed with seasonal colour, a considered selection of trees and shrubs, a pond that brings calm to the landscape, and usually a productive kitchen garden area too. It's the kind of place that encourages you to slow down and notice the care that's gone into every corner.

Ilmington itself is worth lingering in. The village has characteristic Cotswolds appeal with its honey-coloured stone cottages and a proper local pub, without feeling overly manicured. The garden sits comfortably within this traditional setting, even if it's a contemporary creation rather than something with centuries of history attached.

Location-wise, Ilmington works well as a base for exploring further. Stratford-upon-Avon is a short drive north if you want Shakespeare connections and riverside walks, while Chipping Campden – one of the region's liveliest market towns – lies a bit further south. You could easily combine a morning in the garden with a wider day out in the area.
