around Coleshill

Coleshill sits quietly on the Oxfordshire–Wiltshire border, a small estate village of honey-coloured stone where the pace slows the moment you turn off the main road. It's the sort of place you come to walk rather than tick off sights, with the surrounding parkland, water meadows and the River Cole shaping most of what there is to do. Within a couple of miles you'll find five places to walk, ride or otherwise stretch your legs, three properties and gardens worth a visit, two spots for lunch or a pint, and one very good bookshop. Come with sturdy shoes and no fixed plan, and you'll get the best of it.

A good half-day might begin with the Parkland Walk, which loops you through the estate's fields and past its farm buildings, or the longer route known as The Cole and its Landscape, following the river and the old mill sites. Afterwards, the Radnor Arms in the village centre is the obvious stop for lunch, with Blake's Coleshill nearby for something lighter. Leave time for Wheelwright's Bookshop, then drive the short distance to Buscot Park for its water gardens and paintings.
