Faringdon is a working market town rather than a showpiece, and that's much of its appeal. Within a couple of miles of the centre you'll find sixteen places to eat and drink, four places worth visiting, three activities, two places to stay, two shops and a services stop — enough to fill a day without ever feeling you're queuing behind a coach party. It sits at the western edge of the Cotswolds, close enough to the countryside that you can be walking within minutes of parking, and the town itself rewards a slow wander, with independent businesses along the main streets and coaching-inn architecture that hints at its long history on the road west.

A good few hours might start with breakfast or a flat white at Faringdon Coffee House, then a browse through town before picking up something for later from Pat Thomas Butchers. Lunch works well at Saddlers or The Narrows of Faringdon, both easy walking distance from the centre, and The Old Crown Coaching Inn is the natural place to settle in for the evening.
