Coleshill House itself burned down in the mid-twentieth century, but the parkland that surrounds where it stood remains a wonderful place to spend an afternoon on foot. You'll wander through open fields dotted with mature trees, following paths that give you genuine countryside views and a real feel for how the landscape has developed over time.

The estate has an intriguing recent history worth knowing about. During World War II, it served as a training ground for Britain's Auxiliary Units, the clandestine force Churchill had prepared to resist a potential German invasion. As you explore, you can piece together elements of this hidden past and understand how the grounds functioned in those extraordinary times.

It's the kind of walk that takes a couple of hours at an easy pace, making it ideal if you want to get outside without anything too strenuous. The immediate village of Coleshill is small and quiet, so if you're after lunch, shops, or proper facilities, head south to Faringdon, which is only a short drive away and has everything you'd need. This walk genuinely offers something different from typical Cotswolds outings, blending natural beauty with a tangible connection to the region's twentieth-century story.
