Watchfield is a small place that rewards a slower look. Within about two miles you'll find eight places to eat and drink, four spots for activities, two places to visit, one venue for events and culture, and a single shop, which gives you enough to fill a morning or an afternoon without ever feeling rushed or hemmed in by crowds. It suits visitors who like a walk followed by lunch, or an unhurried browse around something they didn't expect to find. Much of what's on offer sits close together, so you can move between it all easily and change your plans as the weather decides.

For a good few hours, start at Tuckmill Meadow, where the grassland and quiet paths make an easy introduction to the area. From there, the Royal Army Chaplains' Museum gives you a different kind of interest, with a story you're unlikely to have come across elsewhere. If you'd rather be active, the Defence Academy Golf Course and the Defence Academy Swimming Pool are both nearby. Round things off at The Eagle, and check what's on at the Arts Theatre before you head home.
