around Uffington

Uffington sits on the edge of the downs, a village small enough to walk end to end yet with enough on its doorstep to fill a day. Within roughly two miles you'll find five places to visit, a couple of activities, two places to stay and two spots to eat and drink, which makes it an easy base rather than a quick stop. The landscape does much of the work here: open ridges, big skies and lanes that lead out of the village and up onto the high ground. It suits anyone who likes their sightseeing on foot, with a pub at the end of it.

A good few hours might start with the White Horse circular walk, which takes you up out of the village and back again with the downland spread out around you. Break off to see The Giant's Stair, then come back down for a look at Tom Brown's School Museum before it closes. The Fox and Hounds is the natural place to end up afterwards, and if you'd rather not drive home, Norton House Bed & Breakfast and Oxford Oak Camping are both close by.
