This small village sits in the countryside between Stow-on-the-Wold and Burford, offering a genuine taste of rural Cotswold life without the crowds you'll find in larger settlements.
With around 200 residents, Nether Westcote feels like stepping back in time, with stone cottages and quiet lanes that reflect centuries of English village tradition.
The main appeal here is walking. The Diamond Way long-distance footpath passes through the parish, offering excellent rambling opportunities through rolling farmland and woodland. The Oxfordshire Way also runs through the northern edge, connecting to nearby villages like Bledington and Wyck Rissington. These routes reward walkers with views across the Cotswold landscape and give you the chance to explore on foot rather than by car.
The village itself centres around its Methodist chapel and the local pub, which provides a welcoming stop for refreshments and a sense of community life. The nearby Church Westcote, just a mile or so away, holds the parish church if you're interested in local architecture and history.
Given its location four miles from Stow-on-the-Wold and close to the A424 towards Burford, you can easily base yourself here or visit as a stopping point while exploring the wider area. It's the kind of place that appeals to walkers and those seeking peaceful countryside rather than attractions and amenities, making it ideal if you want to experience the Cotswolds as they're actually lived in.
