This traditional stone pub sits in the small village of Icomb in the quieter northern reaches of the Cotswolds, designed to feel genuinely at home in its landscape rather than imposed upon it.
It functions as much as a destination restaurant as a casual watering hole, which is really what sets it apart. The kitchen takes seasonal ingredients and transforms straightforward pub classics into something more refined, so you'll find yourself sitting down for a proper meal rather than grabbing a quick bite.
The atmosphere encourages you to settle in and stay awhile. On cooler days there's a fire to warm yourself by, and when the weather cooperates you can take your drink outside. The whole place has that relaxed, genuine hospitality that makes you feel genuinely welcomed rather than just processed through.
It works particularly well as a break during a countryside walk or as an evening destination when you're based somewhere nearby. Stow-on-the-Wold is close enough that you can easily visit both in the same outing, and Moreton-in-Marsh and Burford are also within easy reach. If you're using any of these larger towns as your base, The Feathered Nest gives you a good reason to venture out into the surrounding area and spend a few hours properly exploring.
