Diamond Way is a walking route that loops through the countryside around Lower Swell, giving you a real sense of what makes the Cotswolds special.
The path takes you across rolling hills and open fields separated by dry stone walls that have stood for centuries, with quiet views unfolding as you walk. Whether you fancy a gentle afternoon stroll or something more energetic, the route works for both.
What strikes you most is how the landscape tells the area's story. These fields have been farmed for generations, shaped by the medieval wool trade that built the villages you see today. The honey-coloured stone cottages scattered about are unmistakable Cotswolds architecture, and they really do seem to belong in their surroundings rather than sit on top of them.
Lower Swell village itself is worth a proper look once you've finished walking—it's a good place to catch your breath and grab something to eat or drink. The route also slots nicely into a wider network of paths in the region, so if you want to extend your day out, you're well-positioned for it. Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are both close by if you want to explore further, meaning you can easily combine the walk with visiting other parts of the area.
