Watermeadows Walk, Sherborne Park Estate

Marked by purple waymarkers, the route is relatively flat and takes you through watermeadows alongside the river and across open fields. What makes this landscape special is its history of managed irrigation—a traditional system that gradually fertilised the soil over centuries. You can still see the effects today in the subtle undulations and drainage ditches that pattern the ground beneath your feet. It's a genuinely excellent place to watch wildlife, particularly the waterfowl and various bird species that make their home in this wetland environment.

The estate itself has been deliberately shaped and maintained across generations, so while you're walking, you're moving through a landscape with real depth to it rather than simply enjoying a wild space. The paths are well-maintained, making for an easy, relaxing walk. Sherborne village itself is very quiet and small, so if you're looking for somewhere to eat afterwards or want more in the way of shops and facilities, it's worth driving a short distance to Northleach or Burford. Both are proper market towns with plenty of character and services, and they're convenient stops for a coffee or lunch before heading elsewhere.
