If you're after a gentle walk that captures the essence of the Cotswolds landscape, the Yellow Trail at Sherborne Park Estate delivers exactly that.
This easy-going route takes you around the edges of the estate and through the village of Sherborne, managed by the National Trust, making it perfect for an afternoon that won't leave you exhausted.
As you walk, you'll pass through open fields and along woodland edges where deer often graze – a living connection to the estate's ancient origins as a deer park. The trail offers pleasant views across the valley, and within the village you'll see traditional stone cottages and the old church that anchor Sherborne's character. The estate itself has evolved significantly over centuries, and while the grand house isn't part of the public route, the parkland gives you a real sense of that heritage and the important role this landscape has played locally.
The whole experience is wonderfully low-key, ideal if you want to enjoy some countryside without much effort. Northleach is just a short drive away if you fancy a drink or something to eat afterwards, and Burford offers more extensive facilities if you want to make a fuller afternoon of it. It's worth checking the National Trust website before you go to confirm opening times and what's available on the day.
