Sherborne is a village built for walking rather than browsing, and that shapes how you'll spend your time here. Within about two miles you'll find six places to be active, two spots to eat and drink, and one place to visit, which tells you most of what you need to know: this is countryside first, with just enough in the way of refreshment and interest to make a day of it. Much of what's on offer sits within the Sherborne Park Estate, where a network of waymarked routes fans out across parkland, water meadows and farmland, so you can pick your distance and your pace without much planning.
A good few hours might start with the Watermeadows Walk, which follows the low, damp ground where the landscape feels at its quietest, before you double back on the South Watermeadows Walk for a slightly different view of the same valley. If you have children with you, the Family Walk at Sherborne Park Estate is the gentler option, and the Yellow Trail adds a bit more ground to cover. Finish at the Tea Room, boots off, before heading on.
