Sitting along the River Windrush in West Oxfordshire, about six miles west of Witney, this small village gives you the best of both worlds—genuinely quiet and rural, yet close enough to larger market towns when you need them.
Asthall Leigh is part of the broader Asthall parish, which spreads across several hamlets on either side of the river.
What draws people here is really the setting. The Windrush creates natural walking routes along its banks and through the farmland beyond, so if you're someone who likes to explore on foot, you've found the right spot. The village itself has that traditional Oxfordshire character you probably came for—old stone buildings, genuine community feel, and nowhere near as much tourist traffic as some other spots in the region.
This works best as a base for walks rather than somewhere with major attractions to visit. The river valleys and surrounding countryside offer plenty of good routes, and you're well positioned to reach other areas. Witney is close by if you need shops, restaurants, or want to visit its market and museums, while the wider Cotswolds are easily accessible. The village itself has limited services, but that's rather the point. You're here to experience how the Cotswolds actually work day to day, not rush between tourist sights. It's ideal either as a starting point for riverside walks or as a peaceful base for exploring the region on foot.
