This small village spreads along the River Windrush in the heart of Oxfordshire's Cotswolds, around eight miles west of Witney.

The landscape here is gentle—honey-colored stone cottages dot the terrain, with water meadows and woodland creating a sense of genuine quiet rather than anything artificially slowed down.

The real reason to visit is Minster Lovell Hall, a substantial 15th-century ruin built by William, Lord Lovell. What remains is genuinely impressive: the great tower still stands with considerable presence, and you can trace the outlines of the surrounding walls as you move through what were once inhabited spaces. Walking through these empty rooms gives you a real sense of the medieval life that took place here. English Heritage manages the site and positioned it right beside the Windrush, which enhances the peaceful feel. You're free to wander the grounds, and there's a small visitor center if you want deeper context about the hall's history.

The village church is worth spending time in, and if you enjoy riverside walks, the Windrush offers genuine appeal—especially in spring when the water meadows come alive. Witney is near enough for shops and cafes if you need them, but Minster Lovell really works best as a quiet morning stop or a break point while you're exploring the broader network of Cotswolds valleys and villages.
