Bloxham sits just south of Banbury on the edge of the Cotswolds, a working village of ironstone cottages rather than a place got up for visitors, which is much of its appeal. The lanes are steep in places and the buildings glow that warm brownish-gold you find across this corner of north Oxfordshire. Within roughly two miles of the village centre you'll find eleven places to eat and drink, three things to visit, two spots for activities, a shop, somewhere to stay and a handful of useful services — enough to fill a morning or a leisurely day, and a sensible base if you're exploring the villages and market towns nearby.

A good few hours here might start with coffee and something baked at Bread & Milk, then a wander to look at the church and the older cottages along the main street. The Café at Bloxham Mill makes a easy lunch stop if you'd rather sit a little away from the road, while the Joiners Arms and the Elephant and Castle both give you the option of a proper pub meal and a pint at the end of the afternoon. Families can work off the walking at the Warriner Swimming Pool, and keep an eye out for the Millennium Milepost as you go.
