A small Oxfordshire village in the heart of the Cotswolds, Broughton sits just a few miles north of Witney and connects easily from Burford or Carterton.

The village's real focus is Broughton Castle, a moated manor house that commands the landscape and forms the centrepiece of any visit here. Dating to the 14th century, the castle has been continually expanded and reshaped through the centuries, so what you see today blends medieval, Tudor, and later additions into one architecturally complex building. You can walk the grounds and explore the interior during opening hours, which gives you a real sense of how the place evolved over time.

The village itself offers genuine countryside atmosphere without the crowds you'll find elsewhere in the region. There are some pleasant walks around the farmland and water meadows surrounding the area, and the castle grounds themselves provide a nice setting for a quiet stroll. If you need shops, restaurants, or more facilities, nearby Witney and Burford are close enough to reach easily, making Broughton a good base for a broader day of exploration in the area.

It's a peaceful place if you want to avoid the main tourist trails while still seeing something worth your time. The castle is undoubtedly the main attraction, but the quiet village setting means you could easily spend a bit longer here without feeling rushed.
