Yatton Keynell is a small Wiltshire village positioned handily between Chippenham and the Gloucestershire border, which makes it useful as a base for exploring the broader Cotswolds.

The settlement itself is quiet and genuinely residential, drawing its appeal from authentic character rather than purpose-built attractions. You're in proper countryside here, with green belt land keeping the village distinct from the built-up towns surrounding it.

The parish spreads across several hamlets including Broomfield, Giddeahall, and Long Dean, while the Bybrook River runs along the western edge and offers pleasant walking routes through the area. Much of the village falls within a conservation area, so the architecture and layout have been carefully maintained over the years.

This was once purely agricultural land, and that heritage remains visible in the landscape, though today most residents commute to Chippenham or beyond. The population has grown steadily since the 1800s but has stayed small and manageable. Castle Combe, one of the Cotswolds' busiest villages, sits just a few miles away if you fancy a livelier outing, which makes Yatton Keynell well suited if you prefer quieter surroundings or a walking base. It works best as a place to stay while exploring the wider region rather than as a destination in itself.
