Kent's Bottom

Kent's Bottom is a small hamlet spread across the rolling countryside between Painswick and Stroud, consisting mainly of stone cottages and farmland rather than any kind of village center.

This scattered nature makes it an excellent choice if you want to step away from the more traveled tourist areas while staying within the heart of the Cotswolds.

The main draw here is walking. Footpaths crisscross the surrounding valleys and woodland, giving you direct access to some genuinely varied countryside. You're positioned at the eastern edge of the Cotswold stone belt, where the golden oolitic limestone that defines the region starts to give way to different geological formations. That transition creates interesting scenery worth exploring, particularly if you're curious about how landscape shapes architecture and history.

Both Painswick and Stroud are nearby for more substantial visits. Painswick has its distinctive churchyard yews and a good selection of restaurants, while Stroud, a proper market town, offers arts and craft heritage worth investigating. The broader Cotswolds stone belt is also easily accessible from here.

Don't expect visitor facilities within the hamlet itself—it really functions best as a walking base or a quiet stopping point while you're exploring the wider area. Bring decent boots and a map, and you'll get a genuine feel for rural Cotswolds life rather than a polished visitor experience.
