Nutmeg & Thyme is a plant-based café inside No.31 Burford, the collective shop on Lower High Street.
Its kitchen is entirely free of gluten, egg and dairy, so the whole menu is vegan and suitable for coeliacs, which makes it one of the easier places in Burford to eat with a restricted diet.
Everything is prepared fresh each day. The counter holds the café's own bakes and pastries, including focaccias, millet breads and hazelnut-butter millionaire shortbreads, alongside a cabinet of large seasonal salads made with local produce. There are artisan sandwiches and hot bowls, locally roasted coffee, and a freezer of chilled seasonal meals to take home. The cook trained at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, and the business also caters for retreats, weddings, offices and private events in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.
Seating is limited, so it works on walk-ins rather than reservations. Dogs are very welcome. The kitchen is small and often uses nuts, so mention any allergy before ordering.
The café is closed on Wednesdays. It is about 230 metres downhill from the Tolsey Museum, and you can browse the shop's independent brands while you wait.
