A flooded gravel pit in the Cotswold Water Park turned into a lakeside park, which bills itself as the UK’s largest inland beach.
Alongside the sand there is AquaVenture — an inflatable obstacle course out on the water — plus swan pedalos, row boats and electric boats for hire. Entry is charged per vehicle, with the activities priced separately on top.
The water rules matter here and catch families out. Swimming is allowed only at the beach inside the buoy line, and only when the red-and-yellow flag is flying with a lifeguard on duty. AquaVenture sets a minimum age of six and a minimum height, and asks that users can swim fifty metres unaided; younger or less confident children cannot go on it however keen they are. Anyone under eleven needs an adult in the boat with them.
