Shipton-on-Cherwell is a small village on the edge of the Cherwell valley, north of Kidlington and within easy reach of Woodstock and Oxford. It's a quiet base rather than a busy one, and most of what you'll want is a short drive or a decent walk away: within about two miles you'll find 24 places to eat and drink, three places to visit, three activities, two shops, two places to stay and one local service. That mix makes it a practical stop if you're following the canal and river, working your way around the surrounding villages, or simply want somewhere calm to come back to at the end of the day.

For a few hours, start with the Kidlington Circular Walk (Short Route), which gives you a manageable loop and a sense of the flat, watery landscape here. Bletchingdon Park sits nearby if you'd rather add a proper visit to the day.
