Things to do
in Shipton-on-Cherwell

Shipton-on-Cherwell is a small village on the edge of the Cherwell valley, north of Kidlington and within easy reach of Woodstock and Oxford. It's a quiet base rather than a busy one, and most of what you'll want is a short drive or a decent walk away: within about two miles you'll find places to eat and drink, places to visit, activities, shops, places to stay and local services. That mix makes it a practical stop if you're following the canal and river, working your way around the surrounding villages, or simply want somewhere calm to come back to at the end of the day.

For a few hours, start with the Kidlington Circular Walk (Short Route), which gives you a manageable loop and a sense of the flat, watery landscape here. Bletchingdon Park sits nearby if you'd rather add a proper visit to the day. Afterwards, Annie's Tea Room is the obvious place to sit down with something hot, while Bartlett's Butchers & Baguette Bar suits a lunch you can carry with you. Albert's Fish Bar handles the evening if you're not cooking.
