Hardwicke sits on the western edge of Gloucester, close enough to the city for an easy run in and far enough out that the surrounding lanes and fields set the pace. It's a place people live rather than a place built for visitors, which is part of the appeal: within about two miles you'll find fourteen places to eat and drink, four spots to visit, three places to stay, two activity venues, two shops and a local service, all of them tucked into everyday village and suburban life rather than lined up along a high street. If you're passing through on the way to the Severn or the Cotswold escarpment, it works well as a base or a pause.
A good few hours might start with something active at Reebok CrossFit Glevum, then a proper sit-down lunch — Moltobene Pizzeria if you want a table and a menu, Kingsway Chippy & Kabab House if you'd rather eat and go. Later on, The Boutique Distillery is worth an hour of your afternoon, and The Bumble Bee makes a straightforward stop before you head on. Staying over, The Little Thatch keeps you within walking distance of most of it.
