Lower Rea

This small hamlet sits in the countryside between Chipping Norton and Enstone, offering a genuine slice of rural Cotswolds life away from the busier market towns.

Lower Rea consists of just a handful of properties scattered along quiet lanes, making it the sort of place where you'll hear birdsong more often than traffic.

There's not much here in terms of attractions, and that's rather the point. What you get instead is access to some lovely walking country, with footpaths threading through the surrounding farmland and woodland. The rolling landscape is typical of this part of Oxfordshire, with dry stone walls and open fields that look much as they did centuries ago. If you're exploring the area, you'll find yourself well positioned between two worthwhile stops: Chipping Norton itself, a proper market town with shops, pubs, and genuine character about twenty minutes' drive away, and Enstone, another small village nearby.

This is where you come if you want to experience the quieter side of the Cotswolds rather than visit a specific landmark. Bring good boots, a map, and perhaps a picnic. It's ideal for walkers who want to get off the main tourist routes and see how people actually live in these villages. The surrounding countryside is really what draws people here, offering a chance to experience the region on foot and at your own pace, far from the crowds.
