Guarlford sits in the quiet, level country east of the Malvern Hills, a small settlement of scattered houses, lanes and open fields where the walking is easy and the views back towards the ridge do a lot of the work. It isn't a place that sets out to entertain you, and that's rather the point — you come here for the calm, then find that Malvern's edges are close enough to keep you fed and occupied. Within about two miles you'll find seventeen places to eat and drink, five places to stay, three for shopping, two to visit and a couple more offering activities, which is a good deal more choice than the lanes themselves suggest.

A few hours here might begin with a walk out along the field paths, followed by lunch or a pint at The Green Dragon, which makes a natural anchor for the day. If you're putting together a picnic, The Cheeseboard is worth a stop, and Barnards Greeen Fish Bar or Wok n' Roll will sort out supper without much fuss. Staying longer?
