Newland is a small place, and that is much of its appeal: a settlement you can walk out of in a few minutes, with a scattering of things to do gathered in the couple of miles around it rather than crowded into one high street. Within roughly two miles you'll find fourteen places to eat and drink, eight activity spots, four places to stay, three shops, a visitor attraction and a handful of services. That balance tells you what to expect — somewhere to base yourself for a night or two, or to build a relaxed half-day around, with lanes and villages in between rather than car parks and queues.

A good few hours might start with something from Colston Bakeries, eaten outdoors if the weather allows, before you head off along the Mercian Way and let the walking or riding fill the middle of the day. Afterwards, pf2 Health Clubs is close by if you would rather work up an appetite indoors. Round things off at Duke's Diner or Cave, then browse the local shops before you decide whether to stay on.
