This quiet Gloucestershire village sits just south of Fairford, making it a good base if you want to explore the eastern Cotswolds without staying in the busier market towns.

The village itself is small and working rather than showpiece, with a proper local feel that you don't get everywhere around here.

St Mary's Church deserves a look if medieval architecture interests you. It's a solid stone building that speaks to the village's long history, and the churchyard offers a peaceful spot to sit and think for a while.

The real reason many people come here is the countryside surrounding it. You're in proper walking country, with lanes and footpaths connecting Kempsford to neighbouring hamlets like Whelford and Horcott. The River Coln runs through the area, giving the landscape a softer, more intimate character than you'll find on the higher Cotswolds terrain. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend an afternoon walking without crossing paths with many other people.

RAF Fairford lies just to the north and forms part of the local landscape and history. Fairford itself, roughly twenty minutes' walk away, has the practical things you might need—pubs, shops, and other services.

This works best as a quiet overnight stop rather than a destination in its own right, particularly if you're doing a walking holiday through the region.
