Wayside Camping sits on the edge of Kempsford village and makes an excellent base for exploring this corner of the Cotswolds at a leisurely pace.

Whether you're pitching a tent or bringing a campervan, there's plenty of space, and you get direct access to the countryside right from your pitch.

The main draw for most visitors is the Cotswold Water Park, just a short drive away. This sprawling network of over 170 lakes grew out of old gravel workings and has transformed into a genuinely engaging destination. You could easily spend several days sailing, paddleboarding, spotting birds, or walking the paths that wind between the water. It's the sort of place where you suddenly realise the afternoon has gone.

The village itself rewards an afternoon's wander, particularly around the medieval church, which has accumulated considerable history over the centuries. For meals and supplies, Fairford and Lechlade-on-Thames are both very close by, each with their own riverside character. If you want somewhere with more bustle and historical weight, Cirencester—a former Roman settlement—is easily within reach and offers worthwhile museums and independent shops.

Overall, it's a genuinely useful spot if you want to experience both the natural landscape and the rhythm of village life in this part of the world.
