This simple bird hide sits right on the edge of one of the smaller pools within the Cotswold Lakes system, offering direct views across the water and excellent chances to watch waterfowl and other birds without disturbing them.
The straightforward design works remarkably well for what it's designed to do.
The Cotswold Lakes form the largest marl lake system in the UK, with 180 individual pools spread across 42 square miles between Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. The whole area is serious territory for birdwatchers, with wintering and breeding species providing rewarding viewing opportunities throughout the year. Winter months tend to be most productive when migratory birds arrive in good numbers, though you'll spot interesting species whatever the season. Beyond the birds, you're likely to encounter other wildlife thriving in these restored gravel workings.
Early morning visits work best when birds are most active and light conditions favour observation. Bring binoculars and a field guide, and wear appropriate clothing since shelter is minimal here. The wider lakes area has nature reserves, walking trails, and various recreational facilities if you want to spend more time in the region. You're positioned roughly between Cricklade and Cirencester, both towns offering good places to grab food and drink before or after your visit.
