This small hamlet sits within the parish of Kempsford, about four kilometres south of Fairford in Gloucestershire.

It's one of several settlements that make up this rural community, alongside Whelford and Horcott, forming a quiet corner of the Cotswolds away from the busier tourist routes.

The landscape here is dominated by working farmland and gentle valleys that really illustrate how the Cotswolds functioned historically as a wool-producing region. The nearby River Coln provides a natural focal point for walks, and you'll find genuine access to the countryside rather than manicured attractions. This is proper agricultural land where farming still shapes the daily rhythm of the place.

Fairford, just a short drive north, offers considerably more facilities and is definitely worth a visit for its remarkable church, which still contains its original medieval stained glass. If you're staying in Dunfield itself, you won't find significant attractions within the hamlet—there's no infrastructure here beyond what serves the local community. But that's entirely the point if you're after solitude and a genuine countryside atmosphere.

One practical detail: the proximity to RAF Fairford means you may occasionally hear aircraft overhead. The whole parish has a population around 1,120, which gives you a real sense of the quiet scale. This works best as a peaceful base for exploring the broader Cotswolds rather than as a destination in itself, ideal if you want countryside rather than sightseeing.
