Water Eaton is a small hamlet within the parish of Latton, located in Wiltshire just 1.5 miles north of Cricklade, near the border with Gloucestershire.
The wider parish, which has a population of around 548, also encompasses the hamlet of Eysey, which was once a proper village with its own church before being absorbed into the civil parish structure.
The landscape here is shaped by water in interesting ways. Several watercourses define the parish boundaries, creating natural divisions across the countryside. The Ampney Brook marks the northeastern edge and also forms the county boundary with Gloucestershire. To the south, the Thames itself runs along the parish border, joined by the River Ray as a tributary. The River Churn comes in from the northwest, also feeding into the Thames system. These waterways mean the area has always been defined by its relationship to water, which historically made it suitable for farming and milling.
The A419 runs nearby, connecting Swindon to Cirencester, so the hamlet is well positioned for exploring the wider region without being dominated by through traffic. If you're interested in riverside walks, medieval history, or simply experiencing the quieter side of the Cotswolds' river valleys, this area offers that sense of being tucked into the landscape rather than dominating it.
