This is a remarkable place for anyone who loves trees.
You'll find one of the world's most significant tree collections here—a sprawling 600-acre arboretum with around 15,000 specimens from temperate regions across the globe. The site splits into two distinct experiences: the formal Old Arboretum, designed in Victorian times and offering plenty of space for leisurely exploration, and Silk Wood, an ancient woodland threaded with paths that feels considerably wilder. Many visitors particularly enjoy the elevated treetop walkway, which offers a completely different perspective from high among the branches.
Walking through provides genuine peace and a chance to reconnect with nature, whether you're catching autumn colours, enjoying the fresh growth of spring, or simply sitting quietly beneath mature trees. The arboretum regularly features special trails and art installations that add another layer to visits while drawing attention to environmental conservation. Founded by the Holford family in the mid-19th century, it's been managed by Forestry England for decades. If you need refreshments or want to browse shops, Tetbury is just a short drive away, and the historic town of Malmesbury is equally convenient for extending your day out.
