This exceptional arboretum surrounded by magnificent trees is well worth a visit.

It's a remarkable collection featuring species from around the world, originally established in the mid-1800s by the Holford family and now beautifully maintained by Forestry England. You can easily spend hours exploring its two distinct areas: the more formal Old Arboretum, which showcases exotic and champion trees, and Silk Wood, offering a blend of native woodland and newer plantings.

It's particularly renowned for its breathtaking autumn colours, though it's genuinely wonderful in any season, offering something new to see throughout the year – from delicate spring blooms to robust evergreens, including fine examples of native common holly often adorned with berries in winter. Don't miss the elevated treetop walkway, which gives you a unique perspective over the canopy and is a highlight for many visitors.

The arboretum appeals to families, nature lovers, keen photographers, or anyone simply wanting a peaceful stroll. It's conveniently located just a short drive from Tetbury, and not far from Malmesbury either, making it an easy and rewarding addition to your Cotswolds itinerary.
