This is a wonderful spot to visit if you're interested in trees or simply want a peaceful walk through beautiful countryside.
Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, has been developing its collection for over 160 years, bringing together trees from across the world for both conservation and public enjoyment. You'll find thousands of species here, and one tree that really stands out is the Sugar Maple. It's a fine example of its kind, and it's particularly worth seeking out during autumn when it turns brilliant reds and oranges—quite a sight.
The grounds are extensive, with plenty of paths and trails to explore at your own pace. You could easily spend several hours wandering through areas like the Silk Wood and the Old Arboretum, discovering different species as you go. The Sugar Maple is just one highlight in what amounts to a living library of trees from around the world.
It's a great day out for all ages, and the arboretum regularly offers family-friendly activities alongside the trees themselves. The location is convenient too—you'll find it just a short drive from Tetbury and Malmesbury, the charming market towns nearby, so it works well as part of a broader exploration of the area. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, as you'll definitely be doing plenty of walking.
